One of the things that most people do not know about eating is that if you combine the wrong combination of foods, it can have negative effects on your health, especially when it comes to your digestion. Digestion is a very important function in our bodies and we must give it close attention. If we eat the right combination of foods with our meals, our bodies will have a much easier time absorbing them and it will be a much more pleasurable experience for us. Lets look at a few rules that we should follow while mixing foods.

Proteins and starches should not be mixed as proteins require acid and starches require alkaline stomach fluids.

Fruits should be eaten by themselves and on an empty stomach.
Eat vegetables with anything that you desire except fruits.

Make sure that you drink a glass of water at least half an hour or so before your meal and do not drink water with your meal.

Eat fruits that are high in enzymes such as bananas, avocados, pineapples and mangos.
Salads need to be eaten before your main meal as the enzymes that they contain will help breakdown the other foods that you will eat in your main meal.

If you are one of those individuals who are on a diet, drinking water may not completely satisfy your cravings, but it will keep you from snacking and it will increase your intake of water. It is suggested that we all should try to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

The biggest advantage of knowing the right healthy food combinations to eat is that it can prevent indigestion, acid reflux and other symptoms that can hamper your digestive system. It will also put you on the right track for healthy cooking and eating habits. This will not only benefit your body and help you feel good, it will also improve your moods and make you happier. Anyone who suffers from physical discomfort over a long period of time can also experience mental and emotional strain and this is not healthy for them. So you see, if you do not know the right combination of foods to eat, it can lead to many other problems in your body.

Bad food combinations can also have other harmful effects on the body. If acid reflux problems are not corrected, it can cause cancer cells to develop in the body. What Is Acid Reflux?

Acid reflux disease, also known as gastro-esophageal reflux disease, or GERD, occurs due to the coexistence of two medical ailments. The first acid reflux disorder contributing condition is really a retrograde flow of stomach contents into the esophagus. However, the reflux itself won't necessarily bring about gastro-esophageal reflux disease symptoms or histologic changes, and can occur among healthy individuals as well. In this case, the process is called "physiologic gastroesophageal reflux".

The second heartburn or acid reflux predisposing condition is a lower esophageal sphincter (LES) malfunction. The LES is often a 3-cm to 4-cm ring of muscle, that is two to three times thicker as opposed to proximal esophagus and acts as a valve between the esophagus and the stomach. In the case of heartburn or acid reflux, the LES will not close perfectly and stomach contents splashes up into the esophagus. When pathologic symptoms follow this method, the full condition is named acid reflux disorder.

Gastro-esophageal reflux disease is generally experienced as a persistent (at least 2 times a week) heartburn. Heartburn will be the burning sensation inside chest or throat, due to refluxed stomach contents touching the lining with the esophagus. Since healthy individuals may also experience light reflux - occasional heartburn is usual also, and does not necessarily be an proof of GERD.

Some GERD sufferers might also experience pain in the chest, cough, morning hoarseness, voice changes, difficulty swallowing (especially lumpy foods), chronic earache, burning chest pains, nausea or sinusitis. Some patients report a sensation that reminds food stuck, choking or tightness inside the throat. This happens because of continuous stomach contents acid flow that comes into connection with the esophagus and results in inflammation of the esophagus resulting in scars from tissue damage.

Untreated acid reflux disorder can lead to serious health complications. Those include stricture formation, bleeding, ulcers and esophageal spasms. When the stomach acid reaches the top esophagus and trachea, the procedure can lead to a number of severe conditions, for example asthma, sinusitis and pneumonia. Finally, some people may develop Barrett's esophagus, a disorder that manifest within an abnormal shape and colour of cells within the esophageal lining. This condition is often a precursor to esophageal cancer, particularly in adults over 60 years old.

The treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease takes three forms: surgery, medical therapy and holistic therapy, including dietary and lifestyle changes along with the intake of specific herbal medicines. An undergoing surgery should be thought about cautiously, since it can compound some underlying conditions, for example stricture and motility disorders. Medical treatment of GERD includes PPIs and H2 blockers. While acid reflux disease can usually be treated if you take medications or acid blockers including the above, bear in mind that the outcomes may be temporary which some conventional medications may cause serious unwanted side effects.

From a holistic standpoint, heartburn or acid reflux is known as an alert sign of an important internal imbalance which should be properly addressed. Therefore, alternative remedies, such as homeopathic remedies, herbal solutions, change in lifestyle as part of a whole holistic regimen are strongly appropriate for acid reflux disease sufferers.
